All Old Mill āLā System Counters may be electronically interlocked as a network so each must supply its required quantity of parts before a new count sequence may begin.
Frequently two or more counters (there can be 4, 6, or even 10) Can be grouped to deliver their outputs to a central point such as the input to an automatic packaging machine or similar bagging equipment.
High rates of counting the same part may be obtained by using multiple units and dividing the required count between them.
For example, if a 1000 count is needed and 5 counting systems are grouped together, each supplying 200 parts, one can obtain as many as 6 packages per minute of 1000 count each package, with errors not exceeding 0.1%.
When delivering to Automatic Packaging Machines it is often necessary to have the counters deliver to a lot storage which allows the counters to be operating while the packaging machine is cycling.
When the packaging machine requests a delivery if a complete count is available the lot storage delivers the counted lot into the packaging machine and the counters resume counting.
The packaging machine may be controlled by the counting system so that if a complete lot is not available it the machine will be stopped until it is available and then restarted, THEREBY PREVENTING PACKAGES WITH AN INCORRECT COUNT.
Frequently the counting systems must be equipped with a bulk storage which is controlled to keep the proper level of material in the counter feeder bowls and reduce the operator labor.
